Poultry Farms require a large amount of water to raise their broods, and a groundwater supply is a great way to reduce water bills for those farms lucky enough to be sited on a suitable aquifer. H Fraser Consulting can help find out if a groundwater supply is available in your area.
Our Client, a poultry farm in Wales, faced a new regulatory challenge. Natural Resources Wales (NRW) required them to apply for a water abstraction licence for their two boreholes, which have been operating since 2009 and 2011.
At H Fraser Consulting, we specialise in turning complex regulatory requirements into manageable tasks. We undertook a Tier 1 Hydrogeological Impact Assessment (HIA), a critical component of the licence application process, and applied for an abstraction licence for our client. Our assessment aimed to determine whether the current abstraction affected water levels in a nearby river, especially during periods of low river flow. We undertook a desk study, a water features survey, and site work to calculate the radius of influence and water balance.
To ensure our methods were robust and compliant, we referred to the 2007 Environment Agency report “HIA for groundwater abstractions” and the Wye Abstraction Licensing Strategy (NRW & EA, 2015).
Our detailed assessment concluded that the poultry farm’s groundwater abstraction had a negligible effect on the nearby water features. Once the licence application and report were submitted, we dealt promptly with queries from the regulator, NRW, and we are happy to report that our Client successfully secured their groundwater abstraction licence.
This positive outcome highlights the effectiveness of our services and our unwavering commitment to our clients’ success.
